I've only gotten Who is Online? to partially work ~Vanessa Bubjumikonyoden 22.Feb.03 02:07 PM a Web browser Sametime Developers Toolkit 2.5Windows NT/2000
I can launch it no problem, but when I go to close the new browser window, Lotus Notes locks up. I'm running Windows 98 and Notes 5.0.11. My Notes Location document specifies using Notes as the browser, and my Java Plug-in is setup to use the Java Plug-in Default as the Java Runtime Environment, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. The answer is probably in the R4/5 forum, but I haven't had the chance to go through the hundreds of entries devoted to "Who is Online" yet.
If Who is Online is a hack, what about the Sametime enabled templates? I was surprised that the applet that displays whether the document author is online or not only works if you can edit that document. I'm not thrilled with the idea of giving everyone who uses a Sametime template-driven db Editor rights just so that applet will work.
As for 6.5, I'm surprised that the answer will be to use COM, giving that IBM is going to J2EE. Maybe using COM is a short-term fix until Notes is 100% Java.
